A Studio Built on Patience & Play
Rylee Petkau founded The Potter’s House in 2011, turning a love of clay into a working studio and gift shop tucked into the growing community of Crossfield, Alberta. What began as a small hobby space has grown into a peaceful, welcoming studio offering a full range of pottery workshops — for total beginners and seasoned makers alike.
Every piece that leaves the studio is thrown, trimmed, glazed, and fired by hand, made to be artistic in design and useful in function. And every class is taught with the same philosophy: patient instruction, gentle encouragement, and a genuinely judgment-free space to learn.
Our Process
Creation
Clay is thrown or hand-built into its form on the wheel or worktable.
First Firing
The bisque firing hardens each piece, preparing it for glaze.
Glazing
Each piece is hand-glazed, giving it its final colour and character.
Final Firing
A second firing seals the glaze, ready for your everyday table.
